Both are completely normal and absolutely fine. In any case, with the last trimester of pregnancy, you are now getting closer and closer to the due date. The excitement is increasing! Your Baby's Third Trimester Development
In the third trimester of pregnancy, your baby will keep growing and growing. In the last few weeks, it is essential for your child to gain height and weight. By the end of the 32nd week, your little one weighs about 2 kg and is about 40 cm tall. Babies weigh around 3.5 kg at birth, although there is a wide range of fluctuations. Fat collects under your baby’s skin and creates the typical plump appearance. During the rest of the pregnancy, it can get really tight in your stomach.
Your baby is preparing to finally see you. The eyelids are no longer fused together. It can open and close them normally. It develops the ability to see and hear and reacts to stimuli such as lights and noises from the outside world. It will even recognize your voice.
It also gets used to a sleep-wake cycle. You may notice when he is awake and moving and when he is sleeping and resting. You are sure to notice rhythmic movements in phases. That’s hiccups in babies.
In the third trimester, your baby will enjoy sucking his thumb and making suction movements with his mouth. So it can be breastfed immediately after birth. In the third trimester, usually around the 9th month of pregnancy, it will turn upside down and sink deeper into your pelvis. So it is in the optimal position for childbirth.
Third Trimester: What to Expect
Although the third week of the trimester is commonly thought of as weeks 29 through 40, the length of pregnancy does vary. In fact, very few women give birth on the calculated due date. Only about 5% of all babies are born on the calculated delivery date. Remember, you can go into labor anytime. Probably only between the 38th and 42nd week, if your contractions start after the calculated delivery date, you will of course be monitored very closely in order to give you and your child the best possible security. You will experience ups and downs during the pregnancy months. The main negative is the physical discomfort that occurs as a result of your baby’s increasing size and weight. But all of that outweighs the anticipation.
Two of the most common pregnancy symptoms during the third trimester are shortness of breath and digestive problems. However, these will disappear immediately after birth. There are a few things you can try to feel better about yourself:
Shortness of breath: Since your uterus takes up a lot of space for your baby and therefore keeps growing and pressing against your diaphragm, breathing can be difficult. You may find that you can’t go upstairs without getting out of breath. The best thing you can do is not overexert yourself. Some women also have difficulty breathing when lying down. In this case, try to sleep half-seated, supported by one or more pillows. Shortness of breath during the last trimester is normal. If you are breathing particularly hard, talk to your doctor. As soon as your baby “sinks”, you can breathe more easily again. However, more pressure is then placed on your lower abdomen and pelvis.
Heartburn and indigestion: These stomach upsets often appear in the third trimester of pregnancy. The entire gastrointestinal tract works slower while you are carrying a baby. This causes the muscles of the stomach to relax and this can cause stomach acid to flow back into your esophagus and cause heartburn. To prevent heartburn and indigestion, try to eat smaller meals and snacks more often and avoid fatty foods. After eating, sit up straight or take a little relaxing walk. It is best not to lie down or go to sleep straight away after eating. As with all other complaints, it is of course also true here that you should not take any medication without consulting your doctor. Many women also suffer from constipation in the final weeks of pregnancy. Here it also helps to have several small but high-fiber meals and, above all, to drink enough.
You may notice other ailments in the third trimester as well. Above all, this includes previous contractions, which are now completely normal. Back pain, difficulty walking for long periods of time, slight balance problems, tiredness, and itchy skin are also possible symptoms. Many pregnant women also get stretch marks on their stomach, breasts, and sometimes their thighs. However, they generally fade over time. Many expectant mothers notice swelling, called edema, on their ankles and feet. This is due to the additional fluid storage in the body. Putting your legs up can help reduce the swelling.
